Privacy Policy — Sampler
Last updated: April 23, 2025
Overview
Sampler is a Chrome extension that records audio from your browser tabs,
lets you edit the waveform, and exports files to your computer for use in
music software. All data stays on your device. We do not
collect, transmit, or share any information.
Data We Do Not Collect
- We do not collect personal information of any kind.
- We do not transmit audio recordings or any other data to external servers.
- We do not use analytics, crash reporting, or telemetry services.
- We do not serve ads or use affiliate programs.
Local Storage
Sampler stores audio recordings and your settings exclusively in your
browser's local IndexedDB storage. This data never leaves your device.
You can delete all stored recordings at any time by clearing the
extension's storage via Chrome's settings (Settings → Privacy and
security → Site settings → View permissions and data stored across sites).
Permissions Used
-
tabCapture — Captures the audio stream from the active
browser tab so you can record it. Audio is processed locally and never
sent anywhere.
-
storage / unlimitedStorage — Saves your recordings to
local IndexedDB so they are available across browser sessions without
uploading to any server. Unlimited storage is requested because audio
files can be large and a standard 5 MB quota would prevent recording
longer sessions.
-
downloads — Writes exported audio files (WAV, MP3,
etc.) directly to your computer's file system so you can open them in
music production software.
-
sidePanel — Displays the Sampler interface in Chrome's
side panel while you browse.
Third Parties
Sampler does not integrate with or share data with any third-party
services, SDKs, or APIs.
Children's Privacy
Sampler does not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children
under 13.
